Grammar Bites:  The past simple and past continuous

This structure is used to tell about something that happened in the past while another action was going on.

Imagine you are talking on the phone and then your mom walks into the house.  You can say "I was talking on the phone when my mum walked inside."

When can go at the beginning or the middle of a sentence.  Use a comma after the first verb if a sentence starts with When.

I was eating when he arrived.
When I was eating, he arrived.

Here is a quiz to check your learning!

Grammar Bite 2: Homophones (there, their, and they´re)

These three words sound the same but are spelled differently and mean different things.

There: a place, or to say what is present

They´re - short form of they are

Their- shows possesion by more than one person

Check out this song to help you get it straight :)

I know, it can be tricky (even for native speakers) so give it a go.  Click here!
